Roger was born in Odessa on July 29, 1947 to Etta Hall and William Rufus Barnwell.  He grew up in Notrees and went completely through the school there from first grade through sixth and then to Crockett and Odessa High School.  After he graduated he attended Odessa College for two years.

He was married to Rebecca Sue Barnwell.  He moved to the Houston area and was living in Alvin, Texas where he owned and operated a gunsmith shop.  He passed away in Galveston at John Sealey Hospital on March 10, 1996, cause of death unknown.

Roger was my first friend that I met after moving in March of 1952 to the oil lease that Texas Gulf Producing Company managed and operated at Notrees, Texas.  We lived about 3 miles from them, which was 9 miles from the highway.  Our parents became best friends and we visited often.  I remember Roger being sickly and had really bad asthma.  He was an only child and was well managed by his parents.  My father relocated to the Headlee Plant just east of Odessa in the fall of 1953. Our families remained friends for years but, I lost track of Roger about the time we entered middle school.  This is a picture of us on the first day of school.  We had the same lunch boxes.

Such a great photo, Rita, and great memories of you and Roger as little kids.  And oh, that ever-present wind & dust.  Peace, Love, Joy to you all, Rita.
