Madrid was an institution at OHS.  Any morning you would see Madrid as he circled OHS walking.  Madrid suffered from Marfen's Syndrome.  This was a genetic disorder which affected his vision and gave him the long arms and big torso.  Unfortunately, the disorder is progressive and usually leads to early death from heart and kidney problems.  This was the case with Madrid.  Madrid is listed as a member of the OHS class of 64. but he finallly earned his credits to graduate with our class, the class of 65.

Teenagers can be cruel and Madrid suffered much ridicule from some heartless and worthless people.  A very good friend told me several years ago that the worst thing he had ever did in his life was to bully Madrid.   My friend said he was still ashamed of himself to this very day.  Madrid was a gentile giant and did not deserve his lot in life.  I hope and pray that he achieved some happiness in his short life, he passed away in 1993.

I knew Madrid at OHS but got to know him a little better when I was a Highway Patrol Trooper stationed in Odessa. Madrid would take photos of accident scenes for Insurance Companies. He did great work and all the troopers in Odessa appreciated him.
