Romero C. Vasquez

Rites for Romero Vasquez, 21 years old, Odessa soldier who was killed Sunday in a one car vehicle accident near Fort Sill, Oklahoma will be held at 3 P.M. in the San Juan Catholic Church with the Reverend William McNamara officiating. Full military rite will follow at the graveside at the Odessa Cemetery under the direction of The Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home.

Vasquez was killed instantly at the 2:20 A.M. Sunday as a passenger in the car driven by a Segraves soldier, Manual G. Garcia, 20. The car struck a bridge and crashed into creek in a residential area of Lawton. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Vasquez was reportedly riding to the Fort Sill hospital where his wife was giving birth to their baby.
He was born July 12, 1946 in Mathis and was a 1965 Odessa High School graduate. Vasquez had been in the U.S. Army 2 1/2 years, one year of that he had service in Vietnam.

He married Delia Brito on October 20, 1965 in Odessa.

He was survived by his wife Delia, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guillermo Vasquez, 3201 Eastland, his brothers, Renaldo, Robert and Guillermo, Jr of the home; his three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Martinez of Odessa and Anna Marie and Elva Vasquez of the home.
