Joe Howard Falkner

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Southland Baptist Church in San Angelo. The family will receive visitors at the church that morning at 9 a.m. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. that afternoon in Pioneer Cemetery in Cross Plains. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. He was born June 11, 1947, in San Angelo to Henry Elmer Falkner and Florene Elizabeth James Falkner. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1965. Joe served in the U.S. Navy. He attended Tarleton University in Stephenville where he was a member of the bull-riding team. When Joe moved to San Angelo, he worked at and was owner of the Bell Street Barber Shop. Joe and his father opened Kar Korral and Angelo RV. He worked for Mitchell Toyota and Morgan Buildings in Plano. Joe was a member of Southland Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Henry and Macy Falkner and Ernest and Ada James. Joe is survived by his parents; his wife, Diana; a sister and her husband, Elaine and David Norris, of San Angelo; a daughter and her husband, Natilie and Terry Johnson, of College Station; a son and his wife, Shane and Melissa Falkner, of San Angelo; a stepson, Chris Watts of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren, Justin, Josh, Jeremy, Briana, Bailey, Brandon, Maggie; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. We would like to thank the nurses and doctors at San Angelo Community Medical Center for the good care they gave Joe over the past years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals For The Elderly in San Angelo.

Billy Mac Brown

Joe attended OHS his sophomore and junior years, then moved to Abilene where he is shown in the Cooper High School Class of 1965 annual.    Joe passed away on Feburary 10, 2010.

Jimmie John Robinson

Joe was on the USS Shangri-La CVA-38 with Rick Zellars and me in 66-67...He was a barber and cut my hair a time or two...He never went on liberty with us, but saw him often on the ship...
